Performance tuning a CentOS LAMP web server for high traffic volumes

In August 2010 I was contracted to performance tune a LAMP server to handle approximately 70 full page loads per second which equated to 4,250 concurrent virtual users. We ended up doubling this expectation to 140 full page loads per second without striking issue. If this speed was maintained for 24 hours it would equate to over 12 million hits per day. i foobar’d a fedora 4 machine a couple of days ago and when i went to mount the disk into another machine i get this beautiful error:

mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member'

here was the syntax used:

termcb:~ # mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/old/ mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member'

How to install Lighttpd in Kloxo (LXadmin)

Kloxo (Lxadmin) is one of the free control panel which I love to use on low end boxes. But it use good amount of ram, however kloxo’s support claims that kloxo use only 33MB of ram, but for me it is alway 240MB+ even in idle state. Therefore it is best practice to get rid of Apache and use lighttp.

Kloxo comes with light http installed by default and if you have apache installed then it is really easy to convert from apache to lighttpd.

Tweaking mysql in Kloxo/LxAdmin

Tweaking a web server is very necessary, the less it will consume resource, the more stable it will be and the more website it will be able to handle. Kloxo/lxadmin is a free control panel, and has been working quite great but the problem with it is, it use alot of RAM though kloxo documentation claims that it only eat 33MB ram which is completely wrong in my experience.

There are few ways to tweak kloxo/lxadmin, I already wrote an article on how to replace apache with lighttpd. Lighttpd is much more lighter then apache, though it is bit different but there is an easy way to replace apache with lighttpd in kloxo.

Here I’m going to tell, how to tweak mysql in kloxo.
